Lars Boom won the cobbled stage 5 at the Tour de France last summer. I hope so, I hope so, that would be nice! The year-old Dutchman enters the northern classics as a favorite with an asterisk. And it helped him sign a big-money, two-year transfer from Belkin to Astana. Because he hit the deck in both the Dwars door Vlaanderen and again at E3 Harelbeke. Boom is hoping for big things over the cobbles. Crashing hard at Dwars door Vlaanderen, a spill that left him with contusions and deep-muscle pain on his left side, was hardly the kind of approach he was hoping to have in his first, high-pressure season with Astana.
The team brought him on to help revive its northern classics program. The hip was totally stuck, and the muscles are bruised, so it needs a little bit of time. Positioning is important. Wednesday was just bad luck. You take some risks, sometimes you lose, but sometimes you win some as well. Stefano Zanini, the Italian sport director at Astana who leads the squad during the northern classics, is hoping the team will surprise a few of the five-star favorites.
They grabbed first and second on Wednesday. Their winner — Yves Lampaert was something of a surprise in that race. Gilbert grabbed second in that race and really looked like he was enjoying his racing. The move to a new team seems to have reinvigorated him in In the betting market you can back the Quick-Step boys at He simply cannot beat anyone in a sprint.
This is a shame because he is probably one of the top 5 riders in the world in this tough Belgian terrain. His odds are He too missed the big break in the race but was prominent in what became the second group on the road. He is very close to the big breakthrough performance. At odds of They are looking for three wins in a row at this race. Of the two Rowe would be my choice here. He has better results in and is a bit quicker in a sprint.
Stannard is more of a threat as a lone breakaway rider. Rowe has better odds of Degenkolb is a strong man with a sprint and this helps explain why his odds are Stuyven is more the powerful classics type that can power away from the front of the race. Of the two I would lean more towards Degenkolb here as he builds for the two Monuments in early April. In fact the teams third option — Fabio Felline , may be a better choice than Stuyven.
Odds of Alexander Kristoff Katusha spearheads the Katusha charge. Kristoff led home the main group last weekend in Milan-San Remo. That showed me his legs are good and he has quickness too as he beat a strong group of sprinters for that place. Kristoff has a team-mate in the race that I think could surprise — Tony Martin.
Martin has long been amongst the top TT riders in the world. He has been a breakaway specialist and a powerful domestique. These are all pre-requisites for success in races like E3. This shows he has the ability to feature at the end of these tough races.
The worry is whether he has enough quickness to beat the likes of some of those mentioned above in a sprint from a small group? Again only one bookmaker has odds at the time of posting. If you wait and shop around you might find better odds for some of these riders. Bet here:.

Three others in the Quick-Step Floors team could be a threat here on Friday : Zdenek Stybar — missed the big break in Dwars Door Vlaanderen but along with Terpstra was ble to bridge to the second group with a late attack.
Positioning is important. Wednesday was just bad luck. You take some risks, sometimes you lose, but sometimes you win some as well. Stefano Zanini, the Italian sport director at Astana who leads the squad during the northern classics, is hoping the team will surprise a few of the five-star favorites.
These races are the first big goals of his season. He believes Boom is better-suited for Roubaix than he is for Flanders, but said the team could play the spoiler role against the favorites simply by being stronger than anyone is expecting. We want to finish on the podium at both Flanders and Roubaix.
Why not?! Belgian fans pushed in around the Astana bus to get an autograph or take a photo. They know their cycling. These are the big races of cycling. I am very motivated for these races. I think I will be there. Would love Geraint Thomas to win though E3Harelbeke. Ian Stannard will be riding in a supporting role today, for Geraint Thomas. Stannard, who is focussing on Paris-Roubaix, thinks that Team Sky are on the brink of their first monument victory.
Boom, Langeveld and Degenkolb also involved in the crash with Cancellara. No news on the condition of the riders, we'll let you know as soon as we find out. It's the second crash in a week for Boom, who came down on a corner during Wednesday's Dwars door Vlaanderen. Fortunately for the Dutchman, he avoided any serious injury. LottoNL-Jumbo and Sky now leading the bunch following that crash. While Turgot and Sbaragli are distanced from the break.
Following that crash, Trek report that Cancellara is back on his bike but in pain. Bonifazio, Langeveld and Wagner didn't continue though and are on their way to hospital. Cobbled races are almost always a bit of a bunfight as the riders try to get into prime position on the cobbles.
Let's hope that crash was the worst we'll see today. There was plenty of action at the start today, including Peter Sagan being awarded his weight in beer let's hope he's saved it for later. Check out our start line gallery here. More news of abandons coming through, Lotto-Soudal have lost both Gert Dockx to a back injury and Vergard Breen to an elbow injury. Dockx was one of the men in the break at Dwars door Vlaanderen earlier in the week.
Cancellara is the next man to abandon after that crash. He was seen shaking his wrist following the incident and has decided to climb off. Pictures of the crash show riders scattered all over the road. Looks like it happened on a narrow stretch of cobbles with some riders being thrown into the ditches on either side of the road.
Movistar confirm that Andrey Amador and Imanol Erviti have been tranferred to hospital but do not have any serious injuries. Rumours also coming through that Boom has abandond, but they have not been confirmed. As the peloton losing riders like nobody's business, the gaps to the escapees grows to , with LottoNL leading the pace of the bunch. Here is the latest news on the abandon of Fabian Cancellara , we'll bring you any updates as we get them. Zdenek Stybar knows what it's like to have your hopes dashed by a crash, he fell out of contention of Milan-San Remo on the descent of the Poggio.
He's one of a number of potential winners for Etixx-QuickStep today. As the peloton pass through the feed zone the gap has ballooned to nearly 10 minutes. They've taken an absolute battering today. Not ideal preparation for his Tour of Flanders defence. Daniel Oss could be an outside bet for today. The Italian was in good condition at Milan-San Remo and is looking for more at the classics.
There could be crashes and splits and then the race should come down to the Paterberg and Kwaremont. Of course luck is a huge part for any cyclist and the sun is out and I always prefer that," he said. Cancellara reportedly said as he climbed into the team car that his spring campaign is over, and he may be forced to miss Flanders and Roubaix. Let's home his condition improves in the coming days.
The gap still hovering around minutes for the six escapees as we pass the kilometres ridden mark, still a long way to go though. If Fabain Cancellara were to miss Flanders and Roubaix it would change the whole complexion of the two Monuments. With Tom Boonen also set to miss the races after his nasty fall earlier this month, we could see a new winner of both of these events. As the leaders hit the fifth climb of the day the Boigneberg, the peloton have finally sprung into action.
The TInkoff-Saxo lead group have brought the gap down to The last tweet from Boonen says that he's still suffering with pain in his shoulder but managed to ride kilometres, now he's watching E3 Harelbeke with pain in his heart. A touch more information on Cancellara's abandon. Demol said Cancellara was definitely out for Gent-Wevelgem and his participation for Ronde van Vlaanderen was in doubt too.
He severely hurt his lower back, his left wrist and hand. Did he say his spring classics were over? No, Cancellara was able to get in the car. We can forget about Sunday [Gent-Wevelgem]. If he can then he will race. In the peloton there is a bit of a traffic jam on the Boigneberg.
Nairo Quintana gives an impatient clap of his hands and a fan dutifully responds with a clap of his own, much to the amusment of the Colombian. A mechanical problem for Edvald Boasson Hagen. Lars Boom is off the back of the peloton and in the cars.
He was involved in the crash that ended Fabian Cancellara's race. Geraint Thomas is Team Sky's leader today but, as directeur sportif Servais Knaven told Cyclingnews, the team are keeping their options open. He just needed time to get better and he made a big step last year by finishing the Vuelta. His level has really impressed me. Denis Vanandert seems to have gone down on a corner.
He is attended to by a couple of medical officials but it isn't long before he climbs back on his bike and trying to adjust his handlebars. We're past the halfway mark and the gap to our leaders stands at The peloton appeared to have eased off a little though. BMC and Giant-Alpecin on the front of the group and pushing the pace again. A few riders can't hack it and have dropped off the back.
Team Sky rider Andy Fenn is hanging on for dear life. Dries Devenyns leading the escapees up the Taaienberg but their gap has reduced to just now. The pace is too hard for Quintana who can be seen hanging off the back of the main group. This is his second race ont he cobbles after Dwars door Vlaandern. Benoot powers across to join the other chasers. He put in a great performance at Dwars this week.
The peloton have split into a number of groups on the road, Katusha and Sky at the front of the first 'peloton. The efforts of Katusha bring the four chasers back into the fold as an Astana rider takes a flyer off the front. The upping of the pace has reduced the number in the peloton to around 50 while the gap to the leaders is now only with 79km to go. Cancellara may be out today but we did get a chance to catch up with him earlier in the season and he talked us through his Trek Domane.
You can watch the video here. Dillier and Grivko are back with the peloton once again. Sky are doing much of the work in the peloton at the moment, with Viviani leading proceedings. This race has had a high attrition rate this far and we've still got 75 kilometres to go. Katusha confirm that Jacopo Guarnieri is the latest to abandon. He's one of Alexander Kristoff's main lead-out men. The next climb for the peloton is the Knokteberg the 1.
The advantage of the leaders continues to drop and is now just 3 minutes. The big favourites, minus Cancellara, are still in the bunch. De Vreese is spending his first year in the WorldTour after signing with Astana at the end of last season. He watches the bunch go by from the side of the road as he waits for the team car to give him a lift back to the hotel. De Vreese's move didn't work but Astana have gone on the attack again with Grivko and he has Gaudin and Offredo with him.
The chasing group are still behind the escapees, the peloton are keeping them at close quarters. Cancellara on his way to get a check over. He looks like he's in quite a bit of pain, seems to be his back and thumb that has taken the brunt of the fall. Belgian press speculating that Cancellara may be suffering from a 'minor spinal fracture' we are confirming that with the team however, and will bring you more news when we know.
Confirmation coming through that Cancellara has suffered two fractures in his back and will be out for the remainder of the spring. Tinkoff-Saxo on the front of the peltoon as they bring back yet another failed move off the feont. It appears that Van Ginneken is now with the front group while Turgot has lost touch. Behind, Stijn Devolder is taking with Dirk Demol, the Trek team will be hastily redrawing their race plans.
Sybar looming near the front of the group. What can he do today? The Czech rider has been in great shape this sprint and he'll be rareing to go after losing out last Sunday. The Czech rider has been in great shape this sprint and he'll be raring to go after losing out last Sunday. The latest on the Fabian Cancellara crash and his injuries. Without himself and Boonen we are likely to see a new winner of De Ronde this year. Van Ginneken is the next rider to be blown out of the escape group, we are now down to three with a advantage on the ever decreasing peloton.
Koren is now back with the peloton as Etixx-QuickSterp take up the front. They're really driving the pace now and it's all strung out. Rick Zabel looks in trouble at the back. The Paterberg is next up for the escapees and Devenyns looks like the most comfortable of the remaining three.
As the gap drops below a minute, the Belgian creates some distance between himself and the other two. Sep Vanmarcke attacks on the Paterberg but he gives it too much and ends up riding over the embankment on the side of the road. He stays on his bike but he loses places in the peloton.
It's Oss on the front of the peloton heading up the Paterberg, creating more gaps in the main group. The Peterberg has been quickly despatched and the peloton has broken up on the descent. Paolini too and he looks over his shoulder for Kristoff but he isn't there. It is now Devenyns out front on his own as De Bie gets caught. He's got 27 seconds on the bunch which is quickly tracking him down. The chasing group has grown as the Oude Kwaremont. Thomas in there and it looks like Kristoff has made it back too.
THomas has a dig on the Oude Kwaremont and takes Stybar with him. They have a small gap on the top of the climb as Sagan sets off in chase.
The move increases the international reach of Village Farms, and its ability to increase Altum holdings in the future. Last month, TerrAscend closed a non-brokered private placement stock sale, putting more than 18 million common shares on the market. We have been bullish on the company since initiating coverage last year and are happy to say the TRSSF team has exceeded our expectations, generating rapid increases in margins and operating leverage that have earned them a place solidly in the Top Tier of MSOs," Des Lauriers noted.
Congressional leaders are hurrying the new payments along. Will you get one — and when? Interest from retail investors appeared to lift cannabis stocks broadly higher on Wednesday, signaling that the recent trading frenzy behind Reddit favorites such as GameStop is shifting to other companies.
The Federal Reserve and other powerful central banks have viewed a curiously long bout of low inflation as proof that stimulating the economy through unconventional money-printing measures can ease the pain of downturns. Prioritizing economic support over inflation risk seemed like the right move: Many emerging market central banks initially offset the impact of fleeing foreign investors and rising borrowing costs, while helping to lift their stock prices.
The Apple Inc. The South Korean company - after the first successful approaches last January - was ready to make the Kia plant in West Point Georgia available to Apple, but some days ago the process came to a screeching halt, apparently due to internal disagreements within the Hyundai board. Apple's goal would be to strike an agreement with an Asian company, probably to intercept the potential endless electric car market in the continent.

All rights reserved. Coronavirus, of course. Or more precisely, a vaccine to fight it. Yesterday, Nakae took another look at Ocugen at its present share price, and declared it overpriced, downgrading the shares to Neutral i. To watch Nakae's track record, click here Why is Nakae having second thoughts about Ocugen now?
Valuation is obviously a concern, and certainly the primary one. After all, hype aside, Ocugen stock is a company almost entirely devoid of revenues. At its current market capitalization, therefore, Ocugen stock sells for a mind-numbing 40, times trailing sales, which is kind of a lot.
Now, what must Ocugen do to justify this valuation -- one that's not just "sky high" above fair value, but more orbiting somewhere out past Saturn? Although Covaxin has an ongoing Phase III clinical trial, that's happening in India, and Nakae thinks that even after initial results are in probably in March , the company may need to conduct an additional study in the U.
Next, Ocugen will need to set up manufacturing operations to produce the vaccine in the U. This will of course cost money, and this is probably one reason why Nakae predicts the company "will likely need to raise debt or equity funds in the future. Finally, once manufacturing has been set up and the vaccine goes on sale, the company will have to compete with multiple other vaccines already on the market -- and then split any profits that do result with its partner Bharat.
And of course, all of this only happens if the vaccine proves effective, and safe enough to convince the FDA to issue the EUA. So how long will all of this take? How long before Ocugen turns into something resembling a business, as opposed to just a "coronavirus play? The current outlook offers a conundrum. On the one hand, based on 3 Buys and 1 Hold, the stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating. It will be interesting to see whether the analysts downgrade their ratings or upgrade price targets over the coming months.

The perks of agingOnce you turn 50, and especially after age 65, you can qualify for extra tax breaks. Mohoric and Nibali came back on the descent, Nibali setting a record time for the descent in the process, but Dumoulin and Matthews just couldn't make it and finished 11th and 12th.
We had desperate bad luck with John Degenkolb, he was only about m behind the leaders starting the descent of the Poggio when he unshipped his chain. Rather incredibly, considering all the problems AquaBlue had last year with their 3T bikes, he had chosen to ride with just one front chainring.. He reckons he'd have caught them, I reckon he'd have come very close to taking that sprint for us.
Having said that though, I'd have had money on Trentin with 4kms to, but somehow he managed to screw up his chances completely, finishing last in the group of I'd have been pretty pissed with him too if I'd backed him. Sagan was just below his top level, being able to go with Alap, just, but didn't have a kick left in him for the sprint, he had to settle for 4th.
Michal Kwiatkowski came very close to taking his second MSR, but this time he didn't have the sprint to beat Alap, he took the 3rd step on the podium though. The big surprises were Oliver Naesen sprinting to 2nd and Wout Van Aert finishing 6th in his first go at a km race.. And so on to the cobbles again. And we're probably going to be looking at a small pool of similar riders again for it, the top 15 or so in the betting.
He was 10th in Omloop, and hasn't won a big race like this yet in his career, but he is getting close.. But to go on to win this is a big ask now, he'll really have to up his game and ride away from all of these guys really, and I can't see that happening. To show just how much strength in depth DQS have, they have four riders in the top 11 of the betting. Capable of a late attack while the others are on the limit after reeling in an attack from another of the DQS boys, Gilbert has come very close over the last two years, finishing 2nd twice to Terpstra and GVA.
Yves Lampaert is the same price as Gilbert, because he's basically almost like a carbon copy of Gilbert His record isn't great on paper in this race, but he has been put to work here in the past for Terpstra, Gilbert and Trentin, will he be let off the leash this year with no clear leader in the team? Stybar was 9th last year, but he was one of the 'stoppers' from QS that disrupted the chase of Terpstra, while in he came home 2nd on his own, 25" behind Thomas.
You can be sure Stybar will be doing his best to blow things apart again, and he might even go with a small group that gets away and fights out the finish.. Jungels will need a lot of luck I think to be able to go clear, I think he'll be working for the others. So DQS are absolutely stacked with quality, but they are now facing a Peter Sagan who is starting to look a little bit more like Peter Sagan again. He's getting better, stronger, and more desperate for a big result.
A week of training lost and 4kgs lost because of sickness a few weeks back, he almost looked back to his best in MSR. A few days recovery and he should be starting to come to his peak for the cobbled challenges to come. The thing is now with Sagan, there are a lot of riders around his level, unless he starts to get back to his super-human level.
A lot of these guys will stay with him on the hellingen and cobbles, but he might just have the fastest sprint at the end if a small group finishes together. But his Bora team are nowhere near as good as DQS's, he might be outnumbered again in the last 30kms of this race Friday.
And as much as we'd like to say Sagan doesn't need a team, he can't chase every one of those possible attacks from DQS in the closing kilometres, and he could sit up rather than being leant on, like we've seen him do in the past. His old nemesis Greg Van Avermaet is another big danger, he will not be happy that he missed that move on the Poggio last Saturday, all the guys he should be measuring himself against made it, he finished 42nd..
Very close to a win in OHN, winning the sprint for 2nd behind Stybar, he followed that up with a good ride in SB to finish 6th. He also came very close in that uphill stage finish in Tirreno won by Alap, just didn't have the speed in the sprint. He was also up in the sprint on stage 6 in that silly sprint, also won by Alap, taking 8th, not far off the likes of Viviani, he could be a big danger in this if it comes to a small group sprint..
Matteo Trentin seems to be making a habit of messing up winning opportunities, he doesn't really seem to have a good tactical brain, nor does he seem to listen to his earpiece, as he surely is being given advice that he isn't listening to. He is capable of being with the front group when they get to the finish, he's hard to shake off, and depending on who he's up against, he could well win this.
But if it turns in to a beast battle between the likes of Stybar, Naesen, Sagan and GVA up the bergs, he might not be able to stick with them. Niki Terpstra is the reigning champ, but no longer with DQS.. He has the immense power to push hard on the Paterberg and the Kwaremont and strip the lead group down to a handful of riders, but then he'll need to try to get away from them..
That's going to be the problem.. Lotto are light on wins this year, with only 6 wins in total, with 3 of them coming from Tim Wellens early in the year. Benoot has Keukeleire with him, but the rest of the team is pretty lightweight, so he'll probably be on his own in the last 20kms. Sep Vanmarcke has finished 4th, 5th three times, 7th and 8th in this race, finishing in the top 8 in 6 of the 8 times he's taken part.
Always close, but not good enough for a podium finish.
